Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 2026
These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern translation and interpreting services provided by American Translations and Interpreting Services ("ATIS," "we," "us," or "our"). By requesting a quote, confirming an order, scheduling an interpreter, or using our website, you agree to these Terms.
1. Scope of Services
ATIS provides professional translation and interpreting services for personal, legal, academic, business, and official purposes. This includes certified translations accompanied by a signed Certificate of Translation Accuracy.
2. Quotes, Orders, and Acceptance
- Quotes are estimates based on document length, complexity, formatting requirements, and language pair.
- Binding agreement: An order becomes binding once the client confirms in writing (by email, message, or website submission) that they wish to proceed.
- Payment may be required before work begins or prior to delivery, mailing, or pickup, depending on the service type, order details, and client history.
- The client is responsible for providing complete and legible source documents.
- Any change in scope (additional text or revised documents) may require a revised quote.
3. Payment and Fees
- Currency: All fees are in U.S. dollars.
- Payment timing: Payment may be required before work begins, before delivery, or prior to mailing or pickup, depending on the service and client history.
- Processing: Payments are handled via secure third-party processors. ATIS does not store credit card or banking information.
- Taxes / shipping: Any applicable taxes or shipping fees for hard copies will be disclosed before payment.
4. Turnaround and Delivery
- Turnaround times are estimates and begin once all required files are received and the order is confirmed.
- Electronic delivery: Standard delivery is via email in PDF or similar format.
- Hard copies: If requested, documents may be mailed or made available for pickup. ATIS is not responsible for delays or issues caused by third-party carriers after shipment.
5. Certified Translations and Notarization
A certified translation includes a signed statement attesting to the accuracy of the translation. Notarization is a separate service provided only upon explicit request and for an additional fee.
6. Cancellations and Refunds
Due to the customized nature of professional language services:
- Translations: Non-refundable once work has begun.
- Interpreting: Cancellations made less than the agreed notice period before the appointment may result in the full service fee being due.
- No-shows: Failure to appear for a scheduled interpreting session results in the full fee being due.
7. Accuracy and Revisions
- Clients have 7 business days from delivery to request corrections for errors attributable to ATIS.
- Corrections due to our errors will be made at no additional charge.
- Revisions requested due to client preference or source document errors may incur additional fees.
8. Confidentiality and Privacy
All documents and personal information are treated as confidential. Content is shared only with authorized personnel or assigned linguists under confidentiality obligations, or when required by law.
9. No Guarantee of Acceptance
10. Limitation of Liability
ATIS’s total liability shall not exceed the amount paid for the specific service in question. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
11. Intellectual Property
Until full payment is received, all rights to the translated content remain with ATIS. Upon payment, the client is granted the right to use the translation for its intended purpose.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Sacramento County, California.
